The Scent of Fresh Lemons is one of the musical's three inevitable gag songs. Unlike
the other two, this song is a recurring gag which plays three times throughout the
course of the musical. It is based on Grossberg's infamous catch-phrase "Ah, the
days of my youth. Like the scent of fresh lemons, you see."
Marvin Grossberg, Phoenix Wright
PHOENIX: [spoken] Robert Hammond... Since you last saw him, about how many years would
you say have passed?
GROSSBERG: Did you say... “past”?
PHOENIX: What? Ah–no, no! Well, I mean, yes, technically but–
GROSSBERG: [sung] Like the scent of fresh lemons... The days of my youuuuuuuuth!
Yes! Eureka! The pieces are all coming together now! Robert Hammond... he was the
defense attorney in the DL-6 Incident.
